I’ve been playing ukulele since April of 2006. For this long-time guitar player who also leads children’s music at his church, it is a great instrument: happy-sounding, easy-to play, and versatile. If you want to purchase a ukulele, check out your local music stores first. If they do not have what you need, then I highly recommend elderly.com. I purchased a Fluke concert model from them at a great price.
Every uke player needs to add ukeland.com to his list of internet favorites. Ukeland not only supplies a number of articles and mp3 files, but it also hosts the weekly ukecast (podcast).
Another great resource is the discussion board at 4thpeg.com.
If you are looking for the intersection between ukes and faith, check out the Sacred Uke blog.
Probably the most informative, but not necessarily the most practical, site is Ukulelia.
The best site for all purpose Ukulele fun is Ukulele Beatles Fun. This site has a huge selection of Beatles songs arranged for ukulele. I learned to play guitar with a Beatles song book, so playing these songs on my uke makes me feel 16 again.
